Case 450 dozer track loose

Advice please

Tightened up my track on a case 450 dozer with the grease gun. Lost most tension after about 2-3 hrs of moderate load work--the track is about to jump the
sprocket. I refilled the track tensioner with grease and al ot of grease is coming out under the covering at the back of the tensioning rod as if there is a rear seal
leak. The grease is coming between the front of the cover over the track spring. Looks like I need to remove this to replace the seal.

Any thoughts or instruction on how to easily do this?

Thanks

(quoted from post at 15:37:25 08/01/17) I don't think there is an easy way, unless removing the track is easy for you.
If you have the old style track adjuster that has two bolts connecting the yoke to the idler . Pull the track out for as you can with a come along , remove the bolts and slide the track adjuster out , if the piston and cylinder is pitted you may have to replace them , I see the complete set advertised for $400.00 .

With the serial number of your machine order the track adjuster seal kit complete and have it on hand, you will have to split the track and pull the idler out forward enough so you can take the piston from the cylinder, pump it out as they are usually tight and hard to get a grip of,with the piston out remove the snap
ring and replace the seal on the machined end with the U groove looking to the front, prise the wiper out of the back of the cylinder and replace it,remove the filler valve, remove the grease from the cylinder with something clean and put the piston back in with the seal to the front, push the idler back in place and rejoin the track, install the filler valve and adjust the track, move the machine back and forth and readjust as needed.

Have to agree with Marlowe . I'm a Deere man ..I've owned several dozers in the 350 -450 size. They have had the same issues and I've done just that. Went to parts dealer and replaced everything for about the same amount. No more work and you have all new when done.... just my opinion.

I need the whole track adjuster for my 450B , never saw any advertised for $300.00 or under , I will give them a call .
