3306 misfiring

Hello,
Got a problem that I need a little help with. My caterpillar d6c runs a little rough after new long block installed. Sounds like it's misfiring on one cylinder. My question is, is it possible to clean an injector and if so, what is the process?THANKS

Normally first thing I suggest when some one has put an engine together and has problems is go thru adjusting the valves again. All it takes is one just a little too tight to get the miss. Will not take long and worth the effort. NEXT is get an infrared thermometer and do some checking along the exhaust manifold , see if you can determine which cylinder is cold. Then you will at least know where to start. Answer to you question is yes injectors can be cleaned, I am surprised you did not have them serviced . If I were installing a new block sure would have head the head and injectors checked.

Thanks for the information. The engine block came with the head mounted. I now know that I should have have had injectors serviced .I changed them out from the old engine not thinking to service them. #6 cylinder is the one misfiring, fuel line going to #6 is good flow, just not firing. Valves were set according to the engine service manual, but it might be a little off setting after running it for awhile. I will double check setting. Thanks again!

A D6 from that era has the compact fuel system with none serviceable injector nozzles, to check the nozzels an old trick was to remove the injector pipes, put the throttle in stop, fill each injector nipple with fuel, protect the eyes, crank the engine over any injector that blows the fuel out is leaking compression in and it needs changing, they are not cheap but are usually replaced in sets,to remove them loosen the retaining nut and they may pull straight up,if tight screw on a pipe and use a heel bar under the nut.
Good luck

I changed out #6 with #1 cylinder,switched
them, still #6 is misfiring. I am inclined to
believe that the valve setting is a little
off.I will pull valve cover and check
setting. Thanks

That takes the injectors out of the equation, recheck the valve setting and see how you go from there.
