Cat D5G Hydraulic question

Hi Guys! Hey we need to lift a sheep-foot roller (8'X4') behind a D5GXL dozer. The problem is we don't have the 4th valve. They cost a fortune from Cat. Dose anyone haven 4th valves
available for a reasonable price?? Anyway, here is what we are thinking. Will this work? How about tapping into the main feed from the pump to the valve block, before the valves with a simple
"T" then allowing the (closed center) valve, with its own relief system, to function independently of the Cat valve body, we could route another "T" back to the hydraulic reservoir for the
return. I suppose that would drop the pressure to the main valve body when operating, but we could use 3/8 hoses or put a restrictor in the line? The valve would only be operated when
lifting a 8'X48" sheep foot roller (two 48x48 sections) It's just a lift system, that's why I don't need a real ripper. We will simply lift the sheep foot when we turn around and in transport.
Weight is about 2&1/2 tons. We have that part figured out. But will the hydraulic idea work?

I'm sure the D5 is open center,I have added a lot of backhoes to the 941/951 D4's etc and other small crawlers, the Cat plumbing is very simple, the main pressure from the hydraulic pump is diverted through the add on valve and then on to it's original its destination the tank valve,we usually put a relief valve before the add on valve to protect the pump from been dead ended if the valve that's been added did not have a relief valve of its own,you need a valve with the same spool size as the original, the sort of valve that would suit your needs would be one from a backhoe front loader.

So, to be clear, since the system is "Open Center" I simply divert the return line from the current valves to a valve of the same diameter with a relief valve and then back to the resivouir?
Right?? Thanks, sounds better than my idea! And a whole lot cheaper that $1800 for a Cat valve!

Yes that's what we did to add the extra valve, could be a single valve or a multi valve chest for a backhoe, make sure the valve you fit has a relief valve and if not you will have to add one just before the add on to ensure the pump does not dead end.
