I have been looking for a couple of Cat D-3G's. I've noticed
that some have a narrow track and others wide, yet both
operate about the same distance from the frame. Are the wide
track machines built with a wider frame or are they
adjustable?

Camboted.. I have owned dozer all my life, and I bought a new D3G XL it is one of the most productive dozers for its size I have ever operated. Yes you want the LGP or wide dozer for operating over there in the soft ground. Here in my rocky hard ground with stumps I have the standard frame with like 16 inch pads. I would tear the wide pad machine up in my terrain . Let me know if you want me to help you locate one. I am traveling about half the time looking a machinery.

Jim, thanks! More mud than rocks here! Are the frames wider on the LGP's? Or can I put swap tracks on the 16" machines with an adjustment? Where are you located? I might have you look at some!

No the track frame itself is wider and the sprocket spaced out on the LGP models. I am pretty certain you want and LGP.. I am in Tennessee if something close let me know. LGPs sell better down in Florida and where there are swamps around here everyone wants the standard dozer. My e-mail is open
