ok replaced the curl actuator. cannot get the system to calibrate. still throws the 32-40 code. ahc system. lift handle not calibrated. when you start the calibration, you pull both hand controls to the center, key on, press operate button. it locks out as soon as the key is turned on. grrrrrrr...... the service manual does not show how to clear the codes. is there a scan tool to do that?

Sorry for the delayed response, but I was hoping to get a chance to talk to a buddy of mine before responding. I haven't been able to get with him yet, but I wanted to respond anyways before too many days passed.

That said, the issue your having sounds a lot like one I had with a CAT excavator some years ago as far as the general type of components. We were having issues with the throttle actuator not working properly.

It began by giving a fault code indicating computer failure, so I changed the computer. Things got a bit better, but the code changed, and then said it was the actuator, so I changed that too.

Once again the issue got incrementally better, but again the code changed. This time it said Harness A, B, or C had a fault. Turns out those three harnesses construe the entire electrical system except for a piece going to the display. Since the guy was down, all three harnesses were special order, and a couple of days out, we ordered all three.

I spent nearly a week changing the harnesses, and the issue went away. I never did actually figure out what was the problem, but given the way things worked out, it had to be in one of the harnesses.

That said, given that both the controller, and the actuator have both been changed, it leaves the only alternatives as the computer, or the wiring harness. That being the case, I have no idea how to check out either of those two items.

I'll try again tomorrow to get up with my buddy and see what he says about resetting the codes, etc. He spent a good while at one of the rental houses, and tends to be pretty good with the newer, electronic stuff. Maybe he can give me a bit more insight to pass on.
