I'm in the logging business and I currently use a forwarder to extract logs from the woods. I'm gonna need a dozer with a winch to get the trees I can't get with the forwarder. I used to have a JD450C with winch/arch and it was nice to push trucks out, push/pull trees over etc. I'm looking to buy a IH/Dresser TD7-8. Dozers outfitted with winches can be hard to come by, so I'm going to find a Gearmatic for the IH. My question is, what machines had the longer or shorter pto shaft? Is there a year or serial # where it changes? Thanks

O K I am doing all this from the top of my head. 35 years ih experience. I think all the td 7 & 8 s and the C models will have the long shaft. Then the early E models up around 2660 or so . You can look and if the transmission kina lays in the dozer side ways it will have the shorter shaft (I e different transmission ) A the G models and td 9 h will have the short shaft. Jump on up and find you a td9H ( they can still be found cheap) and you will love it. I have had td 7s 8s c e and g but the td9h is the dozer to have. Cummins power and will work with any ones d4. E mail is open if you need help locating anything.
