Bleeding fuel line. D3 3204

Ok so I have a d3 crawler with a 3204 engine.
Ran it low on fuel and can't get run right after bleeding the injectors.
It runs good for a few mins the starts running rough again. I've changed the fuel filter and been bleeding it and letting it idle for awhile. Still when I Rev it up and put it under a load it starts running rough again. Done this 100 times now with out success. I've read there is a screen on the inlet fuel line

I don't know 3204's, but on a lot of diesels there is a bleed screw at the fuel filters and another at the fuel inlet to the injector pump. Just bleeding the injectors is not enough in most cases. If it has a manual primer pump , you typically use it to bleed air at the fuel filters first, then close that bleeder screw and open the one at the injector pump. After bleeding the injector pump, then bleed the injectors if necessary. Good luck, it can be frustrating.

On my D4H there is an inlet filter about the size of a cigarette filter on the inlet side of the mechanical lift pump, which is mounted on the injector pump.

on my D3b there is small screen in the banjo fitting going into the transfer pump--it has plugged up on me and caused the engine to starve for fuel---when you ran out of fuel you most likely got debris in the fuel line and plugged it

Ok so I removed the inlet banjo and there is not a screen and not any room for a small screen that I can see. Fuel is definitely getting to that point. Maybe another point for the screen? Or since there is no screen a way to maybe back wash the inlet?
This is the pump I have on my dozed (picture posted)
Thanks everyone for your help!!

I had the same problem with my D3B. The input line banjo bolt has a built in screen. They are expensive and someone in the past may have used a plain banjo bolt to save money after dropping the screened one under the engine.

With no screen, trash goes diectly from the tank to the two plastic check valves in the lift pump. One is under the primer pump and one is under the out line (If I recall correctly). Trash gets under the check valves and limits the pump output, which is why it will run slow but not fast.

Also years ago there was an air leak around where the primer pump screwed it. I added a soft copper sealing washer which fixed the problem.

farmerford---after taking my transfer pump off and on a few times I found the 3rd plastic valve--the parts list listed 3 but i couldn't find it--it is behind the plunger, and of course that was the bad one--limited me to only 5 psi output--replaced it and now run at 28 psi
