Just logged in as a Yesterday's Tractors forum member. I have an older Cat motor grader with a left side front metal tag with the Serial #3U1754. I am asking help in identifying the Cat Model number and the year of Production. Any help would be appreciated...please excuse my ignorance if I have done anything wrong as I have never done any requests before.? DrLHH

The 3U will identify the model and the range of years that model was made. The SN 1754 will identify the actual year that unit was manufactured. All you have to do is find someone with a CAT serial number list.

Hi & welcome to the forum,
A 3U is a model 112 grader. I can't help you with the exact year, but I would say the very early 50's. I had a 112 grader and it was sn 3U5290 and was a 55 or 56 so yours is older. The 112 was not made in high production numbers vs the 12 grader. The 3U series is very close to the #12 grader of 8T series except for the engine. The 112 has a 4 cyl and the 12 has a 6cyl.

Thank you to DWF, Dick2, and Nik for their kind response. By their information and earlier posts, I have found that my grader #3U1754 is a Model#112 (designated by the 3U in the serial number). I have yet to identify the production year of the #1754, so any forum help will be appreciated. In an earlier post, there was information that indicated a 3U825 serial number was for a 1948 production year of that inquiry. So, it is likely that my grader#1754 will probably be somewhere in the early 1950's. I have looked at numerous online websites, but have been unsuccessful as of this time. Looking for your continued help??? Thanks in advance. DrLHH
