Case 850-C Dozer Transmission Fluid?

I got a Case 850c, i changed all the fluids in it before i started doing heavy land clearing with it, and i used regular tractor hydraulic fluid for the transmission can converter. i kept having something bug me about it because a long long time ago i thought i read somewhere about dozers requiring a special type of fluid for the trannies otherwise you could burn your clutches?. So i was just double checking. If any one knows the correct oil that would be great, i wouldn't mind changing it again. after about 45 minutes of dozing with it, "clearing forestry for farming", the converter temps get king of up there. there is green, then yellow then red on the gage, about 45 minutes of heavy dozing, it rests between the green and yellow exactly. I am sure its fine but if there is a way, i would like to keep my oil as cool as possible to get maximum trans pressure so things last longer (especially the clutches or what ever) if you know what i mean... I did have the motor turned up a while back, which I'm sure affects my power train temps. i had it turned up last winter, so i never had a problem with the trans temps getting high until it started getting warm outside. its now 70 degrees fareignheight. Didn't know if their is a proper hydraulic tans fluid for it. if so, ill get it and change everything. Also, is there an oil cooler for trans oil? Does anybody know if its possible for me to add an oil cooler to the transmission? if i can, i will buy a very big oil cooler, with its own fan and put it in a custom spot. Sounds like a lot, but if i know its possible i will do it. I want my trans to remain as cool as possible while getting the most power out of it safely, I hope everyone Understands.

you should really get an operations and maintenance manual for that machine---covers all the fluid specs for all the gear boxes and engine plus lubrication points

The book calls for Case TCH as it does for all its equipment same in the hydraulics,Shell Rotella T1 10W or Mobil Trans HD 10W is the equivalent, most people use any decent generic brand HyTrans oil it will do fine, the oils used since about 1991/2 is an upgrade of the oils used before and is supposed to prolong clutch and bearing life.

Okay! Thank you, At tractor supply, they have cheap 303 hydro fluid, then they have black 5 gallon buckets that are more expensive, but are the Traveler brand. Universal Tractor Trans/Hydraulic
Fluid it is. I looked at the expensive oil, and it said it was recommended for many things including TCH.. all it says is recommended for Case TCH Fluid 1210 JIC 145...... Is that Oil the (Proper) oil to
use in the transmission clutches then? like if i do a trans oil change, and lets say i have tons of money to spend, should i buy straight case tch oil only, directly from case, just for the dozer, or would
their be no difference using the traveler brand? thanks.

I cannot comment on the Traveller oils as I'm in the UK and I have not seen it here, seeing the 850C tranny takes 8 gallons I would stick with the TCH but its a matter of choice.

My 850 c does the same thing heats up after 20 min. or so and leaves a trail of oil on the ground until it dosent want to move till it cools down and ii add more oil to the transmission.Found out this last winter from a person who fixed his that was doing the same thing that you need a new charge pump as the old one is worn out.So I bought one for 400.00 and will be putting it on shortly, hope this works!!Dave A

You asking about the oil I did not notice your worry about the cooling till I looked again at your first post, the cooler for the transmission is integral part of the radiator and is quit adequate to do the job,see that your rad is clean and the fan belts are ok,its the rad coolant that cools the transmission oil,a thing that is often overlooked is the dirt that gets into the belly pans,it cakes up with the heat and is like an insulating blanket it a good idea to keep them clean,I do not think there is a need for adding an extra cooler,if an extra cooler was needed it means there is something wrong and it will not fix the problem.
