Track adjuster on TD15E

What is the procedure to reseal one? Put 3 tubes of grease in it, it tensioned up nicely, drove 100 yards and it was totally slack.

I know nothing of IH crawlers, dad has had a couple 1150 cases here, but this one seemed like a good deal so he bought it. I fix it, I get to use it on the farm.

Early model with a DT466, serial is under 8000, which seems to take a different service manual than the later one. Have an operators manual on the way, haven't found a service manual yet.

Would the TD15C manual be the same in this respect?

Split the track and pull out the idler, pump out the piston with a grease gun, reseal it,don't forget the wiper seal in the cylinder.

PS the C differs from the E,the E adjuster is an assembly of its own just sitting there, one end against the recoil spring the other against the idler yoke.

Thanks. That is what it looked like to me, but didn't want to make a bigger job out of it if I didn't have to.

If you want to get spendy I have a full set ,(two books) service for the early E tractor. One book is the tractor the other the engine. E mail open. I usually don't mess with putting all that grease in there to get the piston out just blow air and it will come out and you want waste that grease.

Caution when using air to blow out the piston, I was resealing a mini diggers adjuster and was holding the cylinder and piston in my right hand, I pressed the trigger of the blow gun,the piston did not move but the grease did coming out round the piston like a razor blade and hit the palm of my hand, it put a cut in it bout 2 inches long, thought nothing of it, washed and put a plaster on it and continued on, it started getting sorer and sorer as the day went by, next morning my hand was so big it looked like there was a boxing glove on it, took several trips to the doctor and some strong antibiotics plus 2 weeks off work, then I realised that all the warnings I see in the manuals not to use compressed air to blow pistons from cylinders had a lot of merit.
