John Deere excavator coming up for auction- says bad hyd pump- how hard would this be to load and move- it is a model 690

Reminds me of a story a service manager told me at a dealership. A customer had a hydraulic pump go out on his excavator. He decided to save some money by changing the pump himself. He didn't flush out the lines and cylinders of the system, which had a lot of metal shavings in them. The new pump didn't last long; the excavator was in the dealer's shop getting the system cleaned out before installing a new pump. The dealer was taking off most of the hydraulic lines to flush them better.

At 38000lbs you will need sumptin' big to move it. Never tried but might be possible to unhook hoses from drive motors and push it, maybe. FLUSH THE SYSTEM GOOD .....don't ask

ALMOST impossible to load without another excavator to handle the boom and then it is till a job. Need to pull the shafts from the drive motors where it will roll. With no hydraulic power the brakes are locked. And then as the other poster says more than likely it will be a problem getting all the shavings out off the valves and lines.

That old Deere has a gear type pump, the pump could be bad just due to normal ware,ie slow and no power, the pump could have broken the drive coupling or seized up,can't you look at the machine and establish whats wrong,I have changed lots of gear type pumps that have worn out and just cleaned the tank strainer and changed the filters, piston pump failures are different story esp if not stopped immediately the whole system would be contaminated and require cleaning.
