Brakes are three piece type. Had to remove the back brake through the bottom brake inspection place and cut it in pieces with a sawsall to remove it. It was stretches and bent. Brake drum good condition. Other two sections came out the top through the top brake inspection hole.
Does anyone know if it is necessary to remove the brake lever in order to install the brakes? I do not know if the brakes would be installed from the top or through the brake inspection area bottom of crawler. Does anyone know of places that do repair work on the older TD 6 crawlers? Would like to contact someone for advice on installing the brakes. Got new brakes from General Gear in Idaho

Have a place in Seattle, Wa. and the crawler is on our summer place on Orcas Island.

hd6gtom,
I replaced the brakes on one TD 6 we sold this year. Had the steering clutches removed but this was 30 years ago. Information I have obtained from several sources indicates that the brakes are installed through the brake inspection cover which of course has to be removed. I had a hd6 which we sold this year. Replaced the brakes ( had them relined ) and replaced the steering clutches in the hd6. Similar set up to the TD 6 but there wasn't an inspection cover under each steering brake under the crawler

Came up with an operators manual for a td6. It has procedures for replacing and removing brakes on a td6. Bought a set of brake linings from General Gear in Idaho. According to the manual brakes are removed through the bottom brake inspection hole under the tractor.
I will find out in May. Have You had experience replacing brakes on a Td 6?

It has been a lot of years since I did the brakes on any of my TD6 or TD9, but as I recall the brake pieces are assembled and then feed in from the bottom. I have a bunch of TD manuals on ebay right now and some parts tractors if needed. chuck.

Chuck,
Thanks for the reply. Have two manuals for working of the brakes on a TD 6. One says to remove the pivot lever the other says to push the pivot lever up out of the way and install brakes from the bottom. Brakes are in 3 pieces. Removed the center piece through the top, the front lining through the top after I released it from below, and the back lining through the bottom. Had to pull it down and cut it out in pieces with a sawsall as it was distorted and stuck. Drum is good. Do you remember from the pictures and written information I have included, did You remove the pivot lever? concerned about the brake return spring coming loose from inside. Will work on the brakes in May after we return from vacation.

Chuck,
Thanks for the reply A manual I have says the brakes are installed through the bottom inspection port for the brakes.
Took the center section out the top, front section out the top after releasing it from the pivot lever, and the back section out through the brake inspection port. Had to pull it down and cut it out with a sawsall. It was bent, stuck, and distorted. The drum
is in good condition.
