I'm looking at a 410 hoe to use around the farm adding onto tile, tearing fences out etc. I would appreciate some feedback as to the good the bad and where to look at wear/problem spots. Thanks.

I own a 410 backhoe. It's a great machine with lots of hydraulic power. Mine has always been an easy machine to start too. Deere could have done a better job with the hoe design. The hoe when fully curled and up only gives about 2-2 1/2 feet of ground clearance which means it will drag the ground and make you spin at times when going up onto a pile or over a ditch, but overall that is a minor concern. The hydraulic reverser is very nice for loader work. If you are doing loader work and the ground is wet you'll wish for 4WD pretty quickly.

Wear/problem spots would be the same as for any backhoe such as pins in loader or backhoe. Move the hoe back and forth to see how much play there is in the pins. The worst wear will likely be in the pins on the bucket and the pins that control side to side movement. A good test for a backhoe is to see if it will raise the back of the machine off the ground when the hoe is fully extended.

Drussell, thanks for your insight. In the last 24jrs a 400 diesel came up for sale alot closer than the 410. It is 1 of the last 400's made, has the cylinder swing and is considerably lower in price. I'm gonna look ?t it also. Thanks again

If the 400 has one of those big round swing motors they are not really good. Little swing power and prone to drifting bad. I like the flat platform style of the 410 and the 310. Makes hoe work a lot nicer plus the newer ones are much stronger.
