cat 12 8t grader question

Absolutely no easy way and even with the right pullers and tools it is still a bad job. That is why so many old grades have no brakes. That hub is so big it takes forever to get enough heat to help.

I'm guessing that Cat is like Allis 45 and has two bolt holes in the hub?

If so make yourself a substantial screw puller using the bolt holes.

If the hub doesn't come loose with that

Get the screw as tight as you can and then flog the end of the screw with a REALLY BFH - like about 28 pounds weight

after beating on grader hubs countless times, the only sure way is as follows,no heat required'
firstly, jack up and securely block the remaining three wheels, leaving only the culprit wheel on solid ground,
second, have a spare nut to weld an ample sized shaft there to,[this one shaft and nut will last for multiple wheel removals] leave clearance between hub and nut.
third, using a 20 pound sledge, use it with much gusto [no weaklings allowed]it immediately becomes apparent as
sledging begins what is occurring, you are in essence of using the entire weight of machine assisting the removal
effort,never fails.
