1840 Case Pressure Relief

I have a Case 1840 skid steer here that I did some work on for a friend of mine. While test driving it, I was not at all impressed with the lifting ability. I can hear the pressure relief when trying to dig into a pile of dirt and not even a bucketful. It just wont lift it. I have 2 skid steers of my own and they will both pick the tail end up before the pressure relief kicks in. This was a rental machine at one time so I'm thinking they may have turned it down for liability reasons.

So.... Does anybody know what's involved to raise the relief pressure and what it's supposed to be set at?

I tried the Google machine and didn't find much.

Thanks for any info,Jeff

The relief valve setting is 2300 PSI, the most likely thing thats wrong are the o'rings on the valve body is letting the oil bypass, you will find a snap connection for the pressure gauge on the supply line to the loader valve,to adjust the pressure the cover on the back of the relief valve has to be removed to access the adjuster screw.

Thanks for the info. That valve is not in a real easily accessible
spot, but now that I know what I'm looking for, it looks doable.
Thanks again.

Yes those machines are a pain to work on,the cap over the adjusting screw is on the outer end by #26,if you do have to remove the valve a word of warning before working on the hydraulics lower the loader to the ground and relive any pressure by moving the levers about with the engine stopped, remove the reservoir filler cap to relive the back pressure, better safe than sorry.
