450B or C Track loader

I am looking for a something to clear tress and do some ditch work. I can move around 15,000 lbs. I found a JD 450B and a 450C close by. The 450B has not been ran in two years and appears to have sat out side. It needs new hydric hoses and the left steering brake adjusted. How hard of a job is this and what is a ball park price for all new hoses. It has a 4 in 1 bucket and a rough back hoe that needs hoses as will. The 450C appears to be in good shape and has a bucket with digger teeth. I have only seen pictures of it. It is located in a shed and a farm dealer has it listed. Thanks for the help.

ballpark hose price - $125 each. Steering brake adjustment is easy but the adjustment is prolly not the problem. More like oil on the clutches or clutches worn out. Replacing'em is a bear.

450C is a much better machine, is NOT subject to problems after setting unused. A 450B is OK if well used (often) 450c has wet steering clutches, operating in oil. 450B has dry steering clutches, problems if oil or water leaks in, if unused, clutches will get wet from condensation, will rust and sieze, etc.

If it is a 450B turbo and the steering clutches work- I rather have the B then the C with the wet clutches. I have often heard the phrase about steering clutches "just needing an adjustment" and it is rarely true.

I have a 1060 Deere crawler and it still has its original clutches which is pretty amazing. I only know what because I got it from the original owner who took pretty good care of it.

My opinion is worth much but depending on how much work you have and granted I haven't seen it I would try to buy a decent old rubber tied backhoe and rent a dozer when I was ready for it

Thanks for all the help. Im going to pass the the 450B. It seems like it would be a project and I dont want to spend alot of time and money repairing it. The 450C I found appears to be in good shape and not used to offten or abused. What do you think a fair price is for a 450c track loader? I believe a back hoe is too small for my need. I have a loader tractor but cant clear brush the way a track machine would.

I have run the 350C and 350D series for many years, in my opinion I would go with the 350C. Generally the later models have better improvements unless the previous owner has trashed or severly neglected it.

Went and looked at the 450b this weekend. The tracks and undercarriage appear to be in good shape and the rollers are not worn into. It even has guards to keep mud out.The owner said when he pulls the left handle to turn that the motor bogs down. That is why he thinks the brake is out of adjustment. The bad is that it needs all new hoses. One is currently busted and the hydro sight glass is empty. It has sat out 3 years and has a dead battery. What do you think something in this shape is worth? I understand that it needs work for it be in operating condition.
