Jd1010 gas .030 under main bearings

I have started a ground up restoration on my John Deere 1010 crawler loader and have not been able to locate .030 under main bearings. The crank is already .010 under and I don't believe .020 will clean it up. The serial number is missing but the water pump and water manifold indicate this is a early model.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks MD.

If the transmission shifter is in the dashboard, it is early for sure. I had trouble finding bearings 20 years ago but finally found some
obscure company that had them. Check all the companies and see if you get lucky. If not, get the crank spray welded and ground back to
original size. I got buy doing my engine in-place. Had one spun bearing from coolant in the oil. Cleaned up the journal with emory cloth and
put in .002" under main bearings. They were very scarce at the time and am sure more-so now. 1010 and 2010s have always had poor parts
support. You might be dollars head to find a good used combine engine if cheap. Used to be quite a few around. Cannot say I have looked for
one lately.

Looks like they are still around. NOT cheap though.

Yes the shifter is in the dash panel.
I greatly appreciate the additional places to try. I have a cousin looking for 1010 and 2010 parts motors from my old stomping grounds in south east Missouri. I had thought of having it welded up and ground down but I was hoping to just find the appropriate bearings. I placed the crank in the lathe and cleaned all the journals as best as possible but one main and one rod journal have got to go to .030
I thank you again This is a straight rust free loader that has been stored inside most its life and it deserves to be restored

I have a 1010 first-year crawler-loader with a rear ripper and love it. Probably the most overall useful machine I own. Being a 1960, it
came with a cast-iron Webster-Electric front hydraulic pump instead of a aluminum Cessna. It needed to be resealed and I had a heck of a time
finding a seal-kit for it. I finally did on the shelf of a Deere dealer in Florida.

I had one odd problem that went unnoticed by me for over a year when I first got it running. It had a six-cylinder distributor in it from a
4020 Deere, but a four cylinder cap. So I did not notice for a long time. It kept burning up caps and rotors and running very hot when
worked. It had me going nuts until I discovered the problem. I robbed a four-cylinder distributor cam out of a Case VAC but then had new
problems. The cam had been very rusty and was pitted. So it kept wearing out the rubbing block of the points. I finally got a Pertronix
breakerless kit and it has run like a new machine ever since.

Mine did have the back hoe attachment but it was gone when I got the machine. I would like to find a ripper for mine some day.
I installed the pertronix conversion kit in several other toys and have been very happy with them I plan on installing one in this machine.
A friend that I have flown with for over 25 years bought this machine 12 years ago as a parts machine for his late model 1010 dozer. But his dozer was an ex forest service machine and is in excellent condition. So I acquired this machine. It was running and fully operational when parked inside a large storage building the only problem was the left track did not brake as it should. I have it tore down to the frame rails, reverser and transmission all blocked up. Tracks are good but 7 of my bottom roller are shot. I plane on replacing them with the sealed 350 rollers. I've restored old fords and airplanes and helicopters but this is my first crawler loader so I am reading the service manual and the forums trying to learn. One thing at a time. My dad and I did all our tractor repairs on our farm but it's been 30 years plus since I've had to work on one. Thanks for all the advice

how deep are you going into this motor ? they are expensive! I have been through one. You
can email me for correspondence.

El6147 I have the engine completely apart, the plan is to do a complete overhaul, at this point I may need to replace my sleeve liner it has a few pits but I plan on honing it in the next few days and then check it with a bore run out gauge. The head needs one valve guide which I can do and is ready. The oil pump is anyone's question and I don't see those being offered for sale but I understand JD sell some service parts for them. The water pump needs replaced and I was going to throw a carb overhaul kit in it. Convert the distributor with the pertronix kit.
I would re power this crawler but I don't want to risk damage to other components as a result of increased power.
I thank you also and will be in touch for suggestions.
I don't have any money into this machine except what I put into restoration of it. So I don't mind putting money into it but I don't want to be foolish either.

If my memory serves me right the no 45 combine has the same motor. Also there was a problem with the seals at the bottom of the cylinders that over time would start leaking and if not taken care of you would eventually throw a rod which usually took out a cylinder and I believe all 4 cylinders are made together. jd didn't have these years ago so you had to find an engine some where. this is true fro both the 1010 and 2010 if my memory serves me correctly.

MD-500man,
My email should be open, if you're interested I'll put you in contact with my brother, he's parted out several 1010/2010's recently.

Mike
