I have a JD 420C 1956 I"d like to sell. At 81 I wouldn"t be able to use it long enough to pay to fix it. It needs a tranny gear, first as I remember. It broke about 10 years ago, been in an open shed on concrete. It has the high-lift blade #62 I think. Undercarriage is good, also engine. Can anybody give me a idea of it"s value? Thanks.

Based on what you stated, and the figures in the - "Antique American Tractor and Crawler Value Guide by Terry Dean & Larry L. Swenson" - I would make an informed guess at between $2500. and $4000. .

Hope This Helps.

P.S. - I'm 10 years behind you, with a '51 CAT D-2, 5U .

I paid $2500 for it about 15 years ago with a stuck engine. Freed it up with hot water. I plumbed from the bottom of the block to an old 20# propane tank. Head was off, filled to the top of the block with water and put heat under the tank. Drilled holes in a piece of square tube that lined up with holes across the cylinder, steel blocks under the tube and cranked the bolts down.

Bernie,
I recently bought a 420 in running condition(?) for $2400. I have spent at least 40 hours removing and replacing broken bolts, water pump repair, removing two broken track springs, etc. I would be interested in your machine for parts but if the MA means Massachusetts, hauling would be out of the question. My machine seems to have the center line of the hood setting to the left of center of the tracks? A photo from the front of yours might be of help to me on mine. My email is open.

It is a 4 roller. A guy from VT is interested but the motor is stuck. Gonna try to free it. I will keep you
posted.

My farm is in Orange, just north of Quabbin Resivoir. It was last running about 10 years ago. I heard a mixture of 1/3 each of Marvel Mystery oil, ATF, and kerosene works good. I"m going to fill the cylinders tomorrow with it to see if I can free the engine. You told me once how to fix a hydraulic jack. Can you run it by me again? Can"t remember.
