Hi all. Just needing a hand to locate engine rebuild kit for a 247.7ci td6 crawler.im at my wits end so failing that im tempted to punt it as its just going to waste otherwise.
Cheers toytd6

I just finished overhauling a MD (same engine) and it can get pricey for parts, but they are available. I contacted my CNH dealer and they pointed me in the direction of a engine kit company "Reliance". I got my sleeves, rod cap bearings, and piston rings from them. There are NOS kits that show up on ebay and rep power magazine, and they can potentially be cheaper in the long run.

I ran into the head gasket issue because there are some sleeves that protrude out the top of the engine block .040 in. and they require a special head gasket to go around them. Definitely do some research on these gas-start diesels, they are unique and deserve to be preserved.

If I may ask, what problems are you currently having with it?

Toytd6, That same engine is used in the Farmall MD and WD6 farm tractors.
I don't see any diesel parts listed on Yesterday Tractor but may warrant a call to their parts dept. Another possible is FP Smith in Calif.
Good luck
Dennis

Hi. I forgot to mention im in australia. But im willing to buy from America if the cost isnt going to break the bank. As for the problem with it its nothing more than the machine sitting for about 6 odd years. Id love to do a full resto on it but its gotta be worth while cost wise.
Cheers toytd6.

Just a guess, but I'll bet looking for parts for a 247.7 won't bring up much of anything, since that engine is referred to as a D248. Hard to find parts for? Harder than a C248 gas, but they are out there.

Yep they are a pain to find parts for since they stopped making them many years ago . Main and rod bearings are still out there BUT you may have to have the crank reground to the size of bearings that you come up with . just because your engine is a 248 don't let that stop ya because you can go with the overbore and make it a 264 . This engine is the same as what was used in the farm tractors and you can check around with the guys that play with the old M's and 400 Farmalls. You can even swap out engines from a farm tractor . you may find some new old stock piston and sleeves if you dig deep enough and the same goes for the rest of the engine parts. Nobody is repopping anything . Years back i talked in length with Clevitte on making a run of 264 and 281 parts , They said there was NO MARKET .
Myself i see a market as every year i see guys just like you looking for parts . So why not make a run of say a thousand kits and bearing sets and gskt sets . Not like there are not more then still out running , Myself i would love to have a old Farmall 450 diesel again.

Because then they would have to warehouse them until needed. That plus a short production run would make them so expensive that many people would scrap the dozer/tractor rather than fix it.
