Case1840 uniloader won't move forward or backward

I recently changed the blown head on my Case 1840
uniloader. I am not a mechanic but I managed to put the
rebuilt head back on, adjust the valves and bleed the fuel
lines. The engine start, runs, and sound good but I must have
hooked something up wrong when I put it back together to roll
the cab back... the first few times I started it after I installed
head etc it would begin driving backwards on its own. there
was a linkage that runs with the throttle linkage that I had
installed upside down. So if flipped it around to how it
originally was and when I started the loader it didn't try to drive
backwards but it still won't go forward. the drive motors were
fine before I took things apart to slide cab forward so I doubt
there is anything wrong with them. The steering arms move
forward and backwards but the machine doesn't move. One
clue is that the steering arms won't bend to move or tilt the
bucket, they are locked. Please help me out with any info.

Is it the vertical bar that's located behind the seat? No, actually, I didnt hook that back up, but I manually flipped up the part that that bar goes to and started it with it flipped up and the same thing happened; no movement. Is it essential for that vertical rod to actually be in place when starting the engine? The reason I didn't think that that was important to install before starting the engine is because the brakes that secure the front wheels are already broke so I didn't think installing that bar would make that much difference starting and operating. It makes sense that it could be a safety switch/latch because the loader arms are locked and won't bend. Thank you and please comment with any advice.

We have a 1838, same machine but with the Kubota as I understand it.

The safety bar has to be down before the machine will move, it unlatches the cog in the final drives AND it allows the hand controls to work, they will not pivot if the bar is up.

It sounds like you have a linkage missing. I am assuming you had the cab slid forward to replace your head gasket? (you had to I imagine).

I wonder if the linkage for the arms is connected correctly, if it was moving backwards on its own, possible the linkage had enough pressure on it to actuate the valve its connected to (reverse) whatever you did removed said pressure so its not going backwards now.

If the hand controls are locked up, that sounds like the safety bar to me.

It sounds like you are missing things under the seat/operators platform. Not meaning to sound simple minded, but it almost has to be simple, a head gasket wont effect hydraulics...

I do not know about your 1840, but on my 1835 this happened once, I had taken the plate off where your feet go and there is a little valve handle on top of the hydraulic pump. this valve was lose and had been bumped, there is no handle but you can put a wrench on it and turn it. It is for towing I think. Maybe you will be luckey.
