TD-14 Spark Plugs

I had several TD6 and TD9 and would seem all the ihc gas starting diesels do well with a Champion W89D. This plug is still available but quite pricey at $9 each! The problem is all the other plugs have a short reach (but still MAY do well). What was the plugs you pulled out?

I'll tell you tomorrow. My first post was a result of trying to look up the plug numbers without pulling one. Now I'll do what I should have done in the first place!

I just pulled the front & rear plugs (the easier ones). They look new so I'll leave them in. The tractor gets run about 12 times a year as I start all tractors once a month. The '14 & '14A are strictly for plowing snow. By the way, the plugs are W89D.

(quoted from post at 16:50:52 12/20/16) do you where I can get a td14 or a t-14

I do not know of any, but keep asking around the tractor forums. Check Craig's List, etc. Good Luck!

Sparkplugs ran 5 minutes 12 times a year equal a sparkplug life greater than yours. They may even be the original plugs! The
overall design of this engine was great, but the design of the head casting was poor. The head cracks easily if run very hot,
espcially if shut down hot without switching back to gas mode to help cool the engine down and this also helps clean the gas
system for a easier start next time. Remember to switch back to diesel mode afterwards to keep the gas valves in relaxed mode.

Did they make W89D plugs in 1943? I put those plugs in a few years ago---they look & work great! I've already cracked the head from overheating it while working it. I had it welded & it has been fine ever since. I never switch it back to gas before shutting it down. I treat the '14A the same way.

(quoted from post at 10:31:45 12/21/16) are you looking for a parts machine or a running dozer ?

Neither! I was originally looking for the difference between two spark plugs listed in the TD-14 parts manual. I didn't get an answer so I pulled a plug out of my tractor & decided that I didn't need new plugs. The tractor runs just fine!

absolutly no reason to switch back to gas before shut down. a diesel at idle runs cooler than gas. and also there is never any diesel combustion reaching the spark plugs. hard on the little gas valves also switching to gas. they must be kept closed to prevent warpage. need at least 15 minutes of diesel idling before shut down on diesel. if you want to check the small gas valves just pull out the plugs when running on diesel. if you have leakage you have a problem.

Nice Tip! Thanks!
