There is a JD1010 gas dozer coming up later this month in an auction. I have always been told to stay away from 1010 gas tractors, does the dozer fall in the same category as far as hydraulics? Thanks for any help.

that would be really old & really rare. Should have strong hydraulics on it but parts would be rare or impossible. If you've got a lot of money & don't expect much from it, you've found the perfect machine.

I had a gas dozer and still have a diesel loader. I always heard the final drives were terrible and reversers were weak. I rebuilt my own final drives and never had a problem (were bad when I got them). You had to use the foot clutch with the reversers and they would be okay. The reverser in my loader has never been a problem and I've worn the tracks out a couple times over the years. Yes, some parts are not available.

I have a first-year 1010 crawler and love it. Gas engine same basic size as a 420 Deere. Just has four small cylinders instead of two big ones. My 1010 has the same hydraulic direction reverser as the later 350s used but in some ways, better. Hydraulic system is generic and easy to work on. Early 1010s have Webster pumps and later ones have Cessnas. Engine has been a great little engine. Was in a fire when I first got it many years ago. So I pulled the engine apart and put new gaskets and seals in it. Run like new ever since.

I had a JD 1010C25115 crawler diesel from 1974 to 1993. for the most part it was a good machine. Had to replace the brake /clutch linkage on both sides as well as the steering clutches. Winch was a problem as it would leak down after a time. Ran like a new machine when the fuel pump was replaced.Had a chance to sell it and then use the money to get a 350D, a more modern and better machine.

As long as a 1010 doesn't have a diesel. They are a fine little machine . The belhousing happens to accept the 2-53 Detroit or the gasser from a 440 industrial tractor .

I own a 1010 gas CLB. I rebuilt the engine and it was no more expensive or weird than any other engine. You can go to "jdcrawlers.com" for a LOT more info.
