J.I. Case 320 Terratrac

How many 320 crawler, loader, backhoes are out there ? I know they built 496. I have one I am working on, it only has 859 hours on the unit and zero time on the engine. Original paint and decals. everything works.

I have one ser# 3003043. It's been somewhat modified but nothing to drastic. It's been a good little crawler for my needs.

My 320 has 3 different data tags on it, the one on the middle is ser# 3004860. the other serial numbers are for the loader and backhoe.( J.I. case 175th anniversary next year)
J.I. case collectors association says they only made 496 units for 1957 & 1958. I am a bit confused with the serial numbers, are they sequential or do they skip ?, The difference between your s/n number and mine is 1,817. I tried to look on-line for the answer, but still coming up with nothing.

Not unusual for a manufacturer to make a skip in SN's from one year to the next.

I don't know the answer to this but if the crawlers are anything like the tractors, the other serial numbers could be made up of every other machine to come down the line that year. Backhoes, other sized crawlers, forklifts, wheel loaders, etc.

Thanks, there doesn't seem to be any pattern. But I'm sure they knew what they were doing.
