TD7g dozers changeing the track rail

I'm new to the group but I'm thinking about getting a 1987 td7g dozer the man said one side needs pins in the rail the dozer has 5000hrs on it is that a lot of hrs and is it hard to change the rail I don't know a lot about the td7g are they a good dozer for farm use I may onley use it 2or3 times a year so I don't want to put a hole lot of money in it rite now

If the tracks are bad, you WILL put a lot of money into a crawler - and there is no easy, quick fix for tracks.

The man said he could not afford 2 sides so he just did the one side now and it only need I side what I'm asking is the td7s a good farm dozer I may onley run this thing 2 times a year I was told a new rail was 1500 does that sound about rite

I have a T-6 crawler I am restoring, just spent $3000 to put drive sprockets and new/used tracks on it. I agree tracks and undercarriage are expensive propositions.

I would like to take my time and restore this to I don't know much about the td7g models it should be a good farm dozer I hope it has 5000hrs I just don't know if that's a lot for a 1987 or about rite

Td7g is an improved td 7 c & E and yes there are a real good dozer. IF in fact it is a G model it will have a cummins engine . Track rails are available from BERCO and other aftermarket suppliers. You will have to remove the pads and place on the rail but not a big job. True G models are rare ,be sure and check the serial number and check the engine. The prior c & E models had the ih engine.

$1500 is probably about right for 1 rail.
Check the rollers out. If the pin bosses on
the old rail are smeared up almost all the
way to where the pin is pressed in, there is
a pretty good chance it will almost
certainly need bottom rollers as well.

there are measurements you can take and compare them to wear specs---one is to measure the distance center to center of the pins, that will tell a lot about pin and bushing wear, another is the depth of the rail. you can also check the underside of the bushings, if its worn thru its too late to just have them turned

probably more than a day--new rails come with out pads---so you have to remove all the bolts and take the pads off and then bolt them to the new rail

Does anyone have a td7 dozer they have had for a while that could tell me a little about them the pros and cons and if they would be a good farm dozer I'm going to be keeping up roads is about it I wont be using it a lot maybe 3 to 4 times a year

I have owned TD7G LGP dozer for about 15 years. cleared 15 acres and pushed a few driveways with it. been a good machine. need to work on track adjusters as one side won't take grease and now the track is pretty loose. i'm not sure how, and where to break the track to work on adjuster. I have heard parts can be an issue with these machines. looks like i'm about to find out with the track adjuster. have fun with your machine

I have your track adjuster seal and can tell you how to do it without a lot of work. If you want my e mail is open.

I am thinking about a john deer 450g dozer I don't have much exper with dozers its between the 450g john deer or the td7g its going to be for farm use any sugestions from anyone please
