Relative works for the city water dept. and they got a new deere backhoe that he says digs like crazy- I was wondering what makes new machines dig better- I know more horse[power but my old hoe will lift till relief valve kicks in and will spin the tires when loading so are new hoe's have higher hyd pressure or bigger cylinders ??

More HP, Hyd. volume, not necessary more pressure and larger Cylinders.
Faster cycle times.
Oh
Way more comfort.

My neighbor has a '97 310E? He has 3300psi pressure on the rams and it gets the job done with that. The outriggers have grippy flip pads so it doesn't skate around. It's a 4x4 so sticks when he's loading.

Cylinders aren't that big; my '73 Ford 5550 has a 6.3" boom cylinder and the crowd ain't much smaller. But it's maxed out at 2700psi. Mine was the last year before the turbo with the pump with 30% more flow so it would cycle faster. But for an amateur, slow is safer. But it still has enough for the thumb to lift about 4K pounds if it's close to the pivot.
