HI all, you guys have been a great help with the 933 starter. But I think I'm going to part ways with this machine as I have found two candidates that I would rather own, at what I think are pretty good prices.

The first is an Allis Chalmers hd6 high lift loader, it is in great shape. The sprockets cannot have over 1000 hours on them, idlers have been built up with weld but still seem alright. Tracks are nice and the adjusters are free. The boom comes up a little slow but that's not a real big deal to me. Throw out clutch is nice and smooth, steering clutches and brakes are good and strong, and pretty effortless to use. It has a 3 cylinder gm diesel that fires right up and doesn't smoke. He let me load a dump truck with gravel and it ran good to my knowledge.

The next is an 86 931b. Guy told me it was an 88 but when I looked up the serial number it said it was an 86. Machine is pretty nice. Sprockets are probably about 50% I forgot to check the hours. I have not seen this machine run yet, the guy says he's having a problem with air in the fuel. But he says he's going to fix the problem and assured me it's a good strong machine, but we will see when he gets it running good.

So what I am asking is is there anyone that knows these machines that could point me in the right direction any advice is much appreciated

Well then this one was swapped at some point. It looks to have a supercharger on the side of the block. So I'm guessing it's a 2 stroke. It says general motors model 30450 on the valve cover tag.

I would lean toward the Cat, just from the standpoint of parts availability. Local Cat dealer would have almost anything you need for it,either on the shelf or within 1-2 days. But if down time doesn't bother you go with the allis, parts can be had but they will take some time to locate and have shipped.

I agree with MSM
The cat would be a far better machine.

HD 6 Allis-Chalmers was a work horse in it's day 60+ years ago.

I assume your only working it on your property?
Wouldn't want to try and make money with it just to Old and Slow.

And if you break or need something the search is on and can be a long one.

Most all early Allis had the Detroit so I doubt it's been swaped out.
HD 5 2Cyl HD 6 3 cyl, etc.
Later models got allis own engine.

Thanks, I am just using it on my own property to clear brush and build a motocross track for my nephew. But the undercarriage of the cat worries me a little bit considering how expensive those parts are. But the guy is asking $7000 for it with 6500 hours. It seems like a decent deal to me.

I have a 941b--power shift and pedal steer and it has been very trouble free. It did have pointed sprockets so i bought a set of sprocket rims, cut the old rims out and welded in the new rims while on the machine. pulled the idlers and rollers and rebuilt them up with weld---saved a lot of money

$7000 is a very fair price for the 931B. They are very good machines. If you're not looking to rack up lots of hours the Cat undercarriage will get you buy for quite a while. I
managed buying a good set of used sprockets for one of my 931's. The cost was reasonable. Should you decide to sell your machine down the road the Cat is easier to sell and
get your money back. Having said all that I really like Allis Chalmers.
