radiator flush

i use plain old vinegar. drain the cooling system, flush out all the old antifreeze, then drain. refill with straight vinegar, run the engine for 20 minutes or so, then let it set overnight. drain and flush the next day. vinegar is pretty cheap, and its not as harsh as the flushing chemicals from the auto parts stores.

Cummins makes two radiator flush products,"Restore", and "Restore Plus". They can be ordered online or purchased at Cummins service centers. These products have gotten very favorable reviews online. The Restore Plus is an acidic flush which seems to do a great job if your engine has a bad accumulation of rust and sludge in the cooling passages. I am going to use the Restore Plus in my Dodge Cummins pickup prior to installing a new radiator. It is important not to let the rust and sludge particles enter into your radiator, to avoid clogging. It is important to thoroughly neutralize and purge these types of cleaners with water prior to refilling with antifreeze.

will the vinegar work good in one with fairly heavy buildup? i guess would need to disconnect the hoses to keep it from going into the engine and fill the radiator with vinegar and let it soak and flush it out?
