933 track loader battery question

I am working on a 933 cat track loader. The battery's were removed several years ago. It does take 4 6 volt batteries. Does anybody have a picture or diagram how they are supposed to be hooked up? Everybody is having a tough time remembering how it goes and don't want to fry anything. Thank you

You need to tell us if it's 12 or 24V?

Serial number would help.

Most are 24 Volt with the 4, 6Volt batteries wired in series.

Some older models converted from a pony motor would be 12V

With 2 batteries in series and the other two in series then connected parallel to make 12Volts.

Simple thing is forget about the 4 battery set up and put two 12 volt 760 cca truck batteries in there. Start at the frame ground to negative on one then that positive the negative on the next then you have a hot or positive to go to the starter. Note I am almost certain on that machine the master disconnect is in the ground side but just start at the starter big cable and work back to the last battery for the hot.

I agree--on my 941b track loader i went to two 12v batteries and the master switch is on the negative side

I have a 1958 - 933F, SN 4A136. Standing at the rear looking into the battery tray, I placed 4 - 6 volt batteries in the tray, and starting at the left corner closest to the rear bumper, locate the Negative post. The Negative cable from the chassis will go on this post. Place the remaining 3 batteries in the same orientation and use approx 12" cables, with top post connectors on each end, to hook the first battery positive terminal to the second battery Negative post. Continue this until you come to the 4th battery on the right and hook the starter Positive cable to the last battery Positive post.

I placed a knife shutoff disconnect on the very first negative post on the left most battery where the Negative cable from the chassis connects to.

It is a 24v system. It was designed to work with 4-6 volt batteries. Mine works fine with 4 batteries. I doubt you can get the same CCA from 2 - 12 volt batteries, (cost effectively), but this may not be a concern if you are using the machine in warmer weather and can keep a full charge on the 2 - 12 volt batteries. I've started mine in 0 to 32 degree weather with this 4 battery system with a small shot of ether in the air cleaner.

I can probably get a picture of it in the next week or so if you need one. A con to the 4 battery system is locating 6v batteries and you will pay more for 4 batteries than 2. I think a pro is if you start the machine a lot or start and stop a lot the 4 batteries IMHO work better. Also once the investment in the batteries is made, keep a GOOD trickle AND maintenance charger on all the batteries and they will last a long time. I choose black and decker brand from Home Depot since they did both 6v and 12 volt and they were not too expensive and have given me pretty good service.

Just a hint, the machine draws a very LARGE initial amperage when starting. Make sure all your battery connections are clean, free of corrosion and very tight because I have melted some of the top posts off the batteries when getting in a rush and not making sure all the connections tight.

Good luck and post the serial number for more help.
