worn undercarriage specifics

Hi Folks, on crawlers that I've seen for sale the seller always mentions the condition of the undercarriage as worn or a certain percentage of wear. Exactly what parts is this in reference to?

Thanks All

Well I'm betting 90% or more of those are just wild guesses as to the condition and I'm sure they are making it sound better than it is. LOL !
There are actual measurement specifications given out by manufactures of the various undercarriage parts. You have to take an actual measurement of the part and compare to the specs.

the actual parts involved are track rails,pads,pins/bushings and grousers, also idlers, sprockets and rollers

Attached link will provide a partial answer to your question. All of these parameters can be gauged or measured and compared to original specs to determine true wear. Gross wear such as a bushing that is worn through to the pin is readily apparent, as is a chain that is stretched beyond it's tensioners remaining "take up" capacity, or a sprocket that is worn to a razor edge on the "tooth" tip. Generally "eyeball" wear estimates are not worth a plugged nickle and should be taken not with the proverbial "grain of salt", but perhaps the whole salt mine!
