Well built & reliable tractor, I spent a lot of hours on D6D's, and took part in the disassembly of one these down to the bevel gear compartment with the master mechanic in the shop where I worked.

Our former local greenhouse/farm has a nice "C" model, he invested some money into it, its a nice tractor and great to have around his place when needed. I think they are still desirable models, the D series certainly was for a long time after production stopped.

Ebay - check the listings in the link below and pay ATTENTION to the serial numbers the books cover, there are some in there right now. Jensales manuals, while better than nothing, leave much to be desired in my opinion, and have so for many years.

Caterpillar Legendary Service Literature - they have changed to an order to print arrangement.

I think this tractor is still of the era that had "operators instructions", "serviceman's reference book" and "parts catalog" For stationary applications there was also a manual for those and for some reason, though its just for the engine, I thought they were worth having. I found one for my old D7's D8800 engine. The only thing to be cognizant of is that stationary applications, will likely have different peripheral components as opposed to a tractor's engine. It seemed some of the other information is applicable and adds to the serviceman's reference book.

When ordering be sure to reference your tractors serial number.
