Greetings Fellow Dirt Monster's!!!
I'm new to this site & new to the d6c Cat. A good Buddy got one for his Farm, and I'm helping him go through it. Online research lead me to this forum were the "Wealth" of experience displayed, especially about the d6c, encouraged me to Join!
The Basics: d6c 10K,above 8900, so, 3306 turbo / pwrshift / 163 hyds/, and, anchors a winch, (big Hyster).
So far, our "Manual Library" consists of the big "Cat" shop book and the "Jensales" 3 man. set. I'm a little disappointed with the lack of detail.
DOES ANYONE KNOW of a publication that provides a complete & thorough overview, explanation and introduction to, the D6C 10K???
Thanks Much!! jo'doze

When you say "big Cat shop book" do you mean Caterpillars own repair manual for the D6C? Between that and the Operators manual you will generally have a wealth of information. What specifically are you wishing to know more about?

Thanks Nordic, for your interest.
The "Big" book mentioned is an authentic "Caterpillar" service manual I found and bought specific to this machine's Ser.#, Systems and equipment (800+pgs.). We have also the "JenSales" 3set (700+pgs.), along with a handful of "Cat" manual "sections" that came with the tractor. I'm anxious to "KNOW" this Cat. It's probably me, but after 2 trips through 1000+pgs., I've yet to stumble upon How/When to use the Fuel Primer Pump. I don't need this info, BUT, if this detail is missing, what ELSE is?? I was hoping to find higher detail and broader troubleshooting. Obviously with a "10k" we're addressing a number of issues.
We've tracked down a hyd. leak at the torq. divd'r. All the manual gives is a sparse outline: REMOVE/REBUILD/REPLACE, nothing on just a seal, or gasket or this may be a symptom of a bigger problem. Things like that, l'd hate to bother you guys with all the little stuff, besides, I can't type and pull wrenches at the same time! haha!.. Thanks Again!.. jo'doze

I think I know what you mean...sometimes in big manuals the challenge is finding the right paragraph covering the detail you're looking for. Some things are touched on in several sections of a manual and one is more thorough than another (w/o cross reference). What bothers me is when they say to remove something but don't say how  . If you don't get enough response here I would also suggest that you post at http://www.heavyequipmentforums.com/ as there is quite a bit of traffic of experienced viewers and mechanics there.

Amen Brother!.. I'm already a little disappointed with Caterpillar Manuals. Of the 4to5 issues we're working, on this d6c, I've struggled to find clear & concise explanations, and that's using over 8lbs of Caterpillar books containing almost 2000pgs. YIKES!...
We'll stay after it!.. I'll try that other Forum also. Thanks Again for your time... jo'doze

Thanks!.. I'll try that Forum also... I do have the Opps. Manual, 3 of 'em!, 2 "Cat" & 1Aft.Mrkt. All specific to this "10k" And I'm still not impressed with "How Much" I can reference, "How Fast"!
Maybe I'm a little anxious to overcome the learning curve on this Great old "CAT"... Thanks Again!...

FYI the primer pump is used when changing fuel filters. Open bleeder on filter housing and pump until no air comes out.

Thanks... I was really just using the Primer Pump as an example ...But Thanks!
Have any of you, experienced with the d6c, come across any repair/service/troubleshooting publications that exceed the ones issued by "CAT"?
Next issue: As mentioned in a previous post; We've tracked down a steady hyd. leak at the rear center of the Torque Divider, (It's NOT the Output Shaft seal). Apparently the large O-ring/seal between the carrier... (secured to the divider housing by 8-9/16 external bolts circling the output shaft)... and the divider housing has failed. WHAT IN THE WORLD are we getting into here Fellas??? What should we,.. look for/check/service.. While we have the Torq. Divider off the machine? Could this be a symptom of a bigger problem? What else could/should we do while we're in this deep? Any experienced insights would be a huge amount of help!
Thanks Again!
