pedal steer

I grew up on hand steer crawlers. Later I got a chance to run a foot steer TD20 at the IH Proving Grounds; it was boring! I just crossed my arms and sat there moving my feet. Unless you have a lot of other controls to keep your hands busy, it will be a big adjustment after using hand steer for a long time.

I have two pedal steer Cats and two lever steer--love the pedal steer which also have powershift trannys--- so much easier on the body than the lever steer

When I bought a small dozer for around the farm use, pedal steer was one of my criteria. Luckily I found the right machine, a Fiat, believe it or not! One hand on the shifter. One hand on the blade lever. And my feet dancing around between the pedals and the decelerator pedals.

Now as for me the only dozer i prefer with pedal steer is the older John Deere 750-850 just because GOD did not give me three hands to work with , If you were running one of them for all it was worth when they first came out you needed three hands . One hand of the forward Rev. speed control , one hand on the blade control and one hand for steering . I ran one of the first 750's out in the oil patch back in the mid seventy's . we had a problem with one of the charge pumps and when they came out to put the new pump on along with Al the Head Deere mechanic came a whole bunch of engineers from Deere . Oncce the repair was completed and after a couple small adjustments it was back to running like i liked it to run and one of the engineers and i were talking and i told him that this dozer needed pedal steer as i did not come with two right arms and hands to run it to it's max but ya had two feet just setting there doing nothing . So if it was pedal steer your feet could do the steering and the left hand could do the lets go forward or back at high rates of speed you right hand could do the blade thing and you could be turning changing directions and dropping the blade all at the same time . . well they made them pedal steer and they were really nice when you were working up close and personal setting up a drilling rig and moving things into there proper place while peoples fingers were putting in pins or if you were running for all you could get out of the dozer building that next location , But i do not like it on any dozer that has a decel pedal and a power shift trans , there i like the lever steer . Now i have run a few newer dozers that have all your movement on one big toggle switch on the left and your blade control on the right , yea they are neat . sure way better then the old 2 U 8's and the old 7's or the old I H's or A/C .

I've had some hd6g's. They keep you busy. I was able to run a foot steer, I think a person like me that is some what handicapped could run 1 all day. I like them
