The original subject was "Re: Ford 555 Shuttle Shift problem".

I picked up a ford 555 backhoe with the shuttle shift on the column. It won't go into forward or reverse. Old owner stated it would go into both and them slowly got to the point were it won't do anything. Runs greats , and all hydraulics are strong. I'm thinking it is a clogged screen. Can anyone provide pics of were the cross Allen screw is under the inspection plate. Im guessing its the small plate at the bottom towards the front of the transmission? Can I just blow diesel fuel through this to clean it out while I'm draining fluid. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you're going to keep the machine, you need to get a shop manual. They used to cost well over a $100, with Ebay, you can find them for less than $50.

Over at: http://www.heavyequipmentforums.com/showthread.php?35299-Service-Manual-Trading-Post, you probably can get it free.

A hoe is just too complicated to own without having the best information possible. I have a Ford, the floor plates around the shifters just lift up and you can fiddle around down there. Probably trace the shuttle lever down to a valve.....
