My backhoe has lost power. It is not the engine. It doesn't lose any rpm on grades, or pushing. How do I tell if it is the torque converter, or the directional clutches. Thanks Vic

You sure there is enough fluid in the shuttle/torque,check the oil level, put the transmission in 4th gear with the engine on low idle and check the fluid,if the fluid is ok do a stall test, first go under the machine after you secure it and disconnect the pigtail connection going to the clutch cutout solenoid in case there is an electrial issue, engine on high idle in neutral and note the tacho reading, back to low idle, brakes on full, select 4th gear in the transmission, put the forward reverse lever in forward, slowly increase the engine speed till full throttle is reached, note, the tacho reading,do the same in reverse, the engine will have dropped about 10% if the torque and shuttle are ok,if there was no change the torque or shuttle has an issue, usually if the torque has an issue it reflects in both forward and reverse,if its forward only its fair to assume the clutch pack has an issue, pull the dipstick and smell the fluid,if you get a strong smell of burnt brake linings the clutch is probably slipping, the next to check is the pressure, see what you find when you check those few things.
