USTrac Reverser Question

Good evening everyone,
I have a small USTrac with a reverser that i am restoring. I am ignorant to how a reverser operates and have a question. With the engine running i can pull the reverser lever and the machine will go forward and reverse. Should I be able change gears on the transmission with the engine running and the reverser lever in nuetral? If yes, what should I check out, because when trying to change gears now it grinds. Told you I was ignorant.

I had 2 of these. Same problem. I had to play with the reverser lever to find neutral while putting gearshift in gear. When working properly you should be able to shift any time reverser lever is in neutral. Try Syltech on internet

Sounds like you have the crawler version of the essex tri directional if pulling reverse lever tractor will go both forward and reverse. OK I just read your post and words struct me funny. I know full well what you were saying.Maybe I took too much pain med this morning? LOL

Ya, I see what you are saying, I'm too old to be using these modern phone typing devices anyway. It does go forward when the lever is pushed and backup when pulled. However, when the reverser lever is in nuetral the transmission grinds if you try to change gears. When removing the covers that your feet sit on one can see two clutch packs (what we called them in the day.) There should be some adjustment allowed on these packs. But, will need some help from someone who is familiar with them.
