I have a CASE 450 crawler, with a loader and backhoe on it, and the 188 engine is getting a little tired. I have talked to a few parts houses and the 207 engine is just the same as the 188 except for the bore and stroke, and fuel injector pump. If I just get an overhaul kit for the 188 I can save several thousands over another engine, even a short block or long block. I will replace the torque converter charging pump, the hydraulic pump for the loader and hoe., water pump, is there anything else I should replace while the engine is out? Maybe something in the torque converter???? Also I was going to chain the loader up to the hoe in the raised position so I could get at the radiator and pumps etc. Will I be able to unbolt the engine from the frame and torque converter at that time? Is this a really big job. I have all the tools and a good shop to work in, but never pulled and engine from a crawler, so any pointers will be appreciated. Tell me what you think about the engine 188 or 207. thanks.......Phil H.
