Please Help Case 310e with 188 diesel

Hello,

I am hoping someone on here can help me out of a situation. Bought a Case 310E dozer with a 188 diesel. Engine has a spun rod. Casting number on rod is G11723. I found a document that shows at least three different rods were made for this engine. My rod has a 1.30" at piston pin end and a .750" beam. The other rods have a wider beam. If anyone has a lead for a good used one I would appreciate it. I have found several of the G11847, but it has a rod beam width of .900" and I am not sure what kind of stress or vibration issue that would put on the engine with the others being the G11723 rods with the .750" beam

Hello Rich,
I would think you would want all the rods the same. If the .900 rod works in your engine can you get all four and keep them the same? That's what I would want anyway.
Good luck with your project.
Dennis

You take the big end of the rod and machine a bit off of the cap or rod, or both at the split line. Then you tork the cap back down and hone the big end of the rod round again. They can get out of round after years of use, or if they spun a bearing, that will egg out the rod real fast. The wrist pin can be re-bushed to get back to factory sees. Also the rod is checked for straightness and/or twist in the beam. It's worth the time and money when doing a rebuild on an old engine with a lot of hours or after damage.
