John Deere 290 excavator final drive leak

Friend has a JD 290 leaking oil from final drives. His mechanic says drive motor seal is leaking and filling up final drives and that is where the leak is coming from. He says JD no longer sells the seal for the hydraulic motor. The rest of the final drives work fine. Does anybody know of someone who repairs these motors or where we could get a seal for this motor. I know this machine is basically a Hitachi, but don't know what model Hitachi it corresponds to. Thanks for any help.

The drive motors can be rebuilt/resealed by any reputable hydrosat/hydraulic shop. Usually when the seals leak, the motors are bypassing more oil than the case drain can carry away. So the motors most likely will need to be rebuilt, just putting a seal in will be a waste of time and money. My other concern is if the finals are leaking, the duo cone seals probably are bad from being pressurized and will need to be replaced also. The Hitachi equivalent is a Zaxis 290, but I'm not sure of which series, which will make a difference on sourcing parts, which are not cheap.
