Opinions on a t9 dozer.

Presuming in decent shape, what are the opinions on a t9 international. Gas obviously.
I would like to put in a couple of small ponds and have more time than money. Most dozers I find are worn out and look like money pits. The two t9s I have run across appear to have good undercarriages. Would this to the job or were they not able to push their own shadow? I have read they were comparable to a d4. Is a gas dozer a bad thing other than a little more thirsty?

Any help is appreciated.

I posted the above in the farmall instead of the crawler. Sorry for the double post.

Nothing wrong with a gas dozer, put it to work! it will take longer than with a larger dozer, but it will still do the job.

I looked around for a T6 years ago to use as a chore tractor so I didn't have to bother with a Diesel in all that cold. I think the T9 has the same engine as the W9 wheel tractor; it will use a lot of gas but still get the work done.

Thanks for the comments here and on the farmall
forum. I am very surprised people say not to even
attempt it and buy or rent new. Probably sound
advice. My great grandfather put in a pond in with
mules and by hand. Wonder what he would have
said if I told him it was too hard of work to use a 7
ton dozer. Hard to compare I understand.

Thanks for the advice and comments.

The difference between running and old T 9 or and old D4 compared to a new dozer is your going to look like a guy cooking four pots of chilli at the same time and they are all boiling over tryen to sturr them all at the same time verses setting in a easy chair playing a video game with two JOY STICKS . The older dozers did not have wet clutches and feathering in a dry main clutch was had on them And using the steering clutches while pushing worked on them . Also keep in mind that engine parts are really hard to come by . Let lone parts for the rest of it. Now granted that being a gasser it may not have had the hard day to day work a diesel would have had . But is probably as old if not older them me , and i don't work like i use to and i know parts for me are really hard to come by.

Keep in mind that you will have to work slower than a modern dozer but as long as the undercarriage is sound it will do the work. I have an old D4 7U. I paid 2350 delivered to my yard. I looked it over carefully before buying and I should be able to get the work I need out of it. Renting for what I want to do would have cost far more than buying like I did. Even with expected repairs I think in the long run I'll be on the plus versus renting. A lot of guys will be better off renting. I plan on keeping mine. What man doesn't want to own a dozer?
