JD 450 loader question

OK simple question; there is a JD 450 crawler loader backhoe near me very cheap. Owner says hydraulics weak barely lift bucket. Has changed pump, filters, and some lines stayed the same. Otherwise looks decent. Do you think it would just be a relief valve stuck? It is so cheap could easily sell a few parts and pay for it. Or sell hoe and have machine free. I have a 450B dozer and love that so know the machine.

Yes it could be something in the relief valve, like rubber from a failed hose. Could also be rubber in the valve body restricting the flow and forcing the relief valve open. Does it load the engine when using the hydraulics? If so it would be a blockage somewhere. I know getting rubber out of a system can take quite a while to do.

You can try this.

Raise the loader as high as it will go.

Block the loader and remove the top of the hydraulic tank

Pull the filter off the nipple and replace the top.

Remove the blocking and slam the lever forward with one fast motion and let the loader come down fast till it hits the ground.

With the filter off it might flush any debris in the lines out.As the boom comes down you'll hear the fluid rushing in the tank. You might get a little spray out of the relief on top of the tank.

Might work, might not but worth a try.

You can also take the service line off the pump and blow air from the front to the tank.

I'd test for bad packings in the cylinders too. You can remove a hose from one end and run it in the other direction and see how much oils blows out past the internal seals.
