John Deere 310C backhoe diesels when ignition turned off

I have a John Deere 310C Backhoe that starts and runs great for half an hour to an hour. It then starts to surge somewhat before it ultimately quits. As soon as I notice it beginning to surge and lose power I turn off the ignition. The engine continues to run for several seconds. This the is the only time it does the run on. If I start it and turn it off during the first half hour, the engine stops immediately.

I took it into the John Deere Dealer. They worked on it for a few days and decided to change the alternator, suggesting it had something to do with the fuel feeding system. That fix did absolutely nothing to help the problem.

I need help or suggestions to make to the Dealer Mechanics.

carbon build-up in the head; carbon stays hot enough to ignite fuel that keeps coming thru the injectors. Fuel intake line or filters, with water or fungus blocking inflow, may cause stalling.

310c was only available diesel as far as I
know, so I would say it's gas engine been
swapped from another machine, find out what
and time it to factory specs etc.Alternator
wouldn't make it diesel that would just
make it not shut off ignition at all if
setup wrong.

Well, check the timing and carberator may be too rich and is feeding fuel when it is shut off and being sucked into the hot engine. I dont know about the engine swap, but I do know that I have a 310B right on the frame of the unit and it also has a gasoline engine. Is is possible these two units were special ordered with a gas engine? Everything on the unit shows it is a gas unit. Dont really know I am new at this JD backhoe thing.
