Case 9010 excavator

I'm thinking about looking at a 1994 Case 9010 excavator. It has two buckets and thumb. Recent undercarriage replacement... so the say.

I probably won't put more than a couple hundred hours a year... most likely less. Just farm use.

I have a pretty good understanding of Hitachi excavators... but little of Case other than it is probably a case paint job Link Belt... which I know little about. This is about a Hitachi 120 size... but only around here that would sell for $35-45000.00. He is asking 19500.00 for this Case.

Are they reliable? Parts difficult to get...? Any other thoughts.
Thanks Grant

I've got one customer that operates a lot of Case equipment, and in my experience working on their stuff, they have all seemed to be pretty good machines. Depending in size, the engines are often made by Cummins, but branded as Case. As far as the rest of the machines they tend to do just like most other brands and use name brand components, like the hydraulic pumps, motors, etc instead of designing their own.

All in all the ones I have worked on, be they dozers, excavators, or backhoes, all appear to be well made machines that ought to take whatever you can throw at them.

I've got a 9040b and very pleased with it. I'd only but around cat and komatsu but after countless hours on case backhoes and owning a 590L thought might as well try it. In southern Indiana the parts are great. I bought a parts book and the dealer is about two hours away. Call them with the parts or part numbers and they deliver right to the backdoor within a day or two. If it's an emergency someone will run down there here's a little shot of me slinging dirt this summer

Thanks guys. I'm going to look at it tomorrow and see what condition its in. I know its an old machine, and I have no problem with that...just hope not to have a basket case.

I'll take pics and post back tomorrow night.
Merry Christmas. Grant

Thanks JC, I'll think about it.

I went and looked at the machine and it is rough... cab is beat, no ignition switch, couple of panels off.

But it started cold well and didn't smoke. It traveled well, he did replace most everything on the undercarriage except the pads which were pretty good. It has lots of power and functions well, I was watching him( it is set with CAT controls and I am a JD control guy. There is a pattern switcher). It has been sitting a lot. The guy seemed to take care of all the mechanical issues when he was using it. It didn't seem to be leaking anywhere major, a weep on one of the cylinder seals.

The hour meter was replaced so he came up with about 6000 hours. Apparently this machine fell off a barge and submerged (BAD). But the Insurance company completely rebuilt the motor and the complete drain purge of all the hoses and hydraulic system...this was probably in about 2000 at 3000 hours. It have very little electrical on this machine so that's ok. This guy bought it from them. and has had about 3000 hours since then so I guess it would have worked through any issues in this time.

I guess I should switch the pattern to JD and run it for a few hours to get the feel of the machine and see what happens if it gets hot etc. I wont be hiring it out, just need something on the farm with a bit more reach and power than my Hitachi 60.

Thanks, Grant
