Morning all. Looking for good and bad on allis HD 4 crawlers . Has clam bucket , looks good shape. Going to look at this evening . Thanks.

Mt,
Not sure about the HD4 but have an HD3 with 6 way blade. I really like it. HD4 is a little bigger than the HD3. Have you had experience with crawlers? I would thoroughly check over the under carriage, in particular the track bushings, links and the sprocket. Parts are extremely hard to find!! Make sure all levers work. Bought mine summer before last and everything worked fine but eventually figured out the tracks were quite worn. I picked up a set of HD4 tracks and sprockets from MO last fall that were supposed to fit the HD3. Still have not replaced the tracks. I had to return the sprockets to MO because they did not fit the HD3. I am sure there are others on this site that are much more knowledgeable about the AC HD4 but if you have any other questions feel free to ask! If you need a parts pfd check out Minnpar HD4 online. They give a complete break down of parts.

They had a pretty good reputation in their day.

As you were told the big problem is parts. If you are planning on using it every day you may want to find something else. If it's going to be a 100 hour a year machine 50% undercarriage will last a very long time in years.

I bought a h4 couple years ago. mine is gas. Tracks are wore. replaced the rear sprockets and both upper rollers. Replaced left side steering clutch and band. Biggest problem I didn't see the right casing was broke. Don't know if guy knew or not but just my fault. Hard to find and very exspensive. The other stuff I was planning on replacing when I bought it. My tranny, motor hydraulics all works great. I do all the work myself. If you cant do the work yourself then you costs will sky rocket as its not cheap and not a lot of people do it. You can do white a bit with it but always remember to operate it correctly. Mine never leaves 1st gear. Manuals are a must to maintain adjustments, oil levels. Like previous post says if its used sparingly it will be fine but if used a lot you probably should go with a newer machine. Just my 3 cents worth. Good luck Norm
