T-340 Crawler

Hi, Im hoping someone out there could help me with a International T-340 crawler. I installed new steering clutches and now they are not releasing. Both tracks are powered even with the handles pulled back. The back-up shoes are adjusted all the way out and the clutch spring is adjusted so there is no extra tension on it. I made a template to adjust the actuating links like the manual said. It looks like all the parts only fit one way. Not sure what else to try. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a T-340.

The "clutches" at the planetary differerental act as a brake. Both pads press against the diff when the handles are forward, which makes the differential apply power to both sides. When you pull the handle back toward you, it takes the pad off of the differential, either left or right, allowing that side of it to freewheel, and not apply power to that side track. Pulling back on either handle all the way should engage the brakes, which are right before the final drives.

Those machines dont turn real sharply unless you are pushing a load, or use the brake to pivot.

All that being said, if you assembled it and adjusted it per the manual, it seems that perhaps the levers are mis-oriented? Or perhps have alot of slop in them? Those levers make the eccentric shafts move, which brings those pads into and out of contact with the planetary differential.

Do your brakes work correctly? That would help.

You could remove the pto to see what is happening up there, when you pull the levers-i think there actually are 2 plugs at the rear of the cover, which allow you to see those pads .

Did you install brake bands. My case same year doesn't have clutches , it has brake bands. By the other fellows comment you only have brake bands. that being the case when you pull on both handles it will stop your machine. check your manual on adjusting them. norm
