Pop is thinking of a smaller dozer for cleaning ditches and his wood lot. At 86, it's a littla hard for him to start, get off and on and operate the Cat D4 he has had for over 20 years.

There is a dealer going out of business and one of the things up for auction is a MF 200 (6 way blade, 4 tooth ripper on the back, and though I've been on the look out for a 450 JD w/ a 6 way, I popped in here to see what you guys think of this as a smaller machine for general clean up work.

do your self a huge favor buy the JD--- havn't been new MF undercarriage parts for several years. Used ones seem to be almost all gone.

Thanks for the replies.
I operated JD 450-550 and 750s back in the late 70s in the oil field, and found them to be the most reliable....
........but with ANY piece of used equipment, ya have to know what you need to look for in different brands!

Hold on for a minute guys. He didn't say he was going to get rid of the D4, he said his dad was looking for a machine that was easier to get on an off of. His dad is 86. He wants to use the smaller dozer for cleaning some ditches and in the woodlot. To me that doesn't sound like a lot of hours of use and with his dad's age at 86 he probably won't be around long enough to wear out the undercarriage. Stop looking at things like a 20 year old going to use the machine to make a living for the next 40 years.
