Owatanna Mustang 330 Skidsteer Hydraulics question

Hi fellows. I'm trying to fix an Owatanna whose bucket quit tilting. This is my dad's machine and as far as hydraulics are concerned I know nothing about them.

Seems like I must have a seal leaking someplace. I would presume there is a cylinder and a spool valve that is operated by the foot pedal. And it could be either of these. Do I have this correct? If so, is there any way to tell which one might be leaking?

The cylinder seems like it would be straightforward to R&R, but I am not sure about the spool valve. I have not even looked at how hard it might be to get that off. Any advice? The bucket raises and lowers just fine, it is just the tilt that quit working.

Hi Roger,
Well, what I'm told is that the tilt stopped working at all, but then he let it sit for awhile, and he could tilt it up but it would not stay up.

There isn't any noise, and no fluid leaking out of the cylinder or anywhere else. Another theory is that there could be something loose with the foot pedal.

I'm sorry I'm asking these questions without having taken off the access plate to look at the plumbing--the unit is about 30 miles away and I'm trying to help my dad, who dies not use the internet.

Thanks
Charlie

Fairly common for the cylinder to blow the piston seals. You CAN check the cylinders while still on the machine. Will not need to replace the cylinders just take them to a shop and have the seals replaced. May be just one side , first thing to do is remove the LOWER pin that fastens the rod to the bucket. See how hard it is to pull and push the rod in and out. Should not be able to move it. Then with both un hooked move the control see if both go out and in right if not you have found the bad one.

Thanks, guys. You're awesome. Sounds much more straightforward than I thought and if that's all it will take I will be thrilled. javascript:emoticon(':D')
