I have a 1987 JCB 1400B with a shifter/wiring problem which after reading a few post it seems to be a common problem. I do have a service manual for the 1400B's but it is for the serial numbers 337001 and up my hoe is lower then that its 315637 (The whole # is 14BT4105/315637/7) The electrical diagram is differn't and I am struggling to find a manual or even just a electrical diagram for the lower serial number 1400B. could anyone help me out? The picture I attached is from the incorrect manual that I have

thanks

I can't help with a diagram, what type problem are you having,is the backup warning coming on when reverse is selected,is the clutch cut out switch returning.

I have 2 problems, First problem I only have reverse and this weekend I will be checking the shuttle port pressures and I hope I just need to adjust the valve but prepared for the worst :)(seems to be a common problem with these JCBs)My second problem or question is that I have a machanical lever on the left of the steering colume to select F/N/R by a cable BUT on the right of the steering I have a electrical lever that goes forward and backwards and has a button in the center and it controls nothing just wondering what it is suppose to control? I have only had the machine for a few weeks and bought it knowing it needs work.

thanks

Sounds like the machine you got has the Borg Warner shuttle that is cable operated, the cut out clutch is manual operated with a rod linkage.secure the machine,go under it in front of the left wheel, get a second person to operate the F/R lever, you will see where the lever moves the F/R valve going into the shuttle,on the outer end there is a 1/4 bolt with a jam nut screwed into the valve, when the valve is pushed in fully there should be about .010" clearance between the head of the bolt and the bracket that pushes it,the valve is spring loaded to push out against the bracket, when the valve is out the oil for the clutches is dumped and drive is lost,so the valve has to be pushed in to check the clearance, check the adjustment and see if you have drive in both directions,Don't know what the switch could be those machines came with full road going electrics, could be a light dip switch.

thanks, I wont be able to work on it until Monday but I had a quick look at the valve gap and there is a socket wedged in between the plunger and adjustment screw so he must have had problems with it, it has had a lot of pressure forcing it in not sure if that would damage the return spring or anything else in there. I have read a lot of your other postings and after I correct the gap I am going to check the pressures at the 3 ports and compare it to what it is suppose to be, then hopefully you can point me in the right direction. (see the attached picture?)

That valve is used to dump the oil for either forward and reverse, seeing that you still got reverse drive the most likely thing that is wrong especially if it happened suddenly is the Belleville spring broke in the forward clutch pack, this spring acts like a pressure plate to squeeze the discs together when selected.when the spring cracks no pressure can be put on the discs and drive is lost,do your tests and see what you find, there is very little can be done on the shuttle in situ,to replace the Belleville spring the shuttle has to be removed.

I did the tests with an older gauge I had laying around and the pressures in the Forward and Reverse position were low, I don't trust the gauge so I ordered a new 0-40 Bar gauge and will repeat the tests again. I am not sure what the manual is pointing to get the neutral position reading, is it the hydrolic valve quick disconnect connector? The manual calls out for that position "snap connector" (see attached pic)
