My Hough h65c loader has a DT361 Engine that is in need of Help

The engine runs great for about 15- 20 minutes then looses power and starts blowing black exhaust smoke and then it just dies. If I let it set overnight it will start and run again but repeats the problem and dies. When it is running it appears to be fine then nothing.

I have had the Injector pump, and injectors rebuilt.the return lines were changed. Replaced the fuel pump
and have replaced both the fuel and air filters. The turbo operates freely.

Any help would appreciated Thank you Jerry

Jerry, one thing to check is to put a piece of clear tubing on the return line. Watch the tubing for air bubbles, especially about the time when you expect it to start running bad. Bubbles indicate an air leak between the fuel tank and injector pump. If there is a hand primer pump ahead of the injector pump make sure the handle is screwed in tight. Basic stuff, I hope some of this helps.

Loosing power and blowing black smoke.. I am thinking you have a piston that is getting ready to go or may have cam bearings . Something is locking up when hot. The longer you let it go the more expensive the repair is going to be. Very few parts for those engines out there. You may have to replace it with a dt407 from a farm tractor.

Well if it is blowing black smoke then something is loading the engine or she is tryen real hard to seize up . And since i can not be there to touchy feely we are guessing .

DT361 is almost the same as the D361 . The Dt has twin piston cooling jet where the D361 has only one . there is a little difference in the piston . The DT361 was used in the loaders and the first TD 15's then in the 1206 . Parts are out there .

I think you have something floating in your diesel tank thats getting sucked into the inlet, cutting off fuel flow. After it sits a while, the piece floats back out. Plastic is famous for this.

Thanks for all the suggestions I will try and check them all out. I probably forgot to say even after it quits the engine still turns over freely...????
