still trying to figure out this 440icd till my books come in,, some 440s have 4sp trans mine has a 5sp trans,,and what is the little lever on top of the trans next to the shifter do thanks cdv

The little lever engages the PTO, if you have one. If not, and you want one, the same one fits the 440IC that fits the standard 440. Dad's didn't have one so he found a salvage yard that was able to find one for us.

As far as the speeds, Dad's has a 5 speed. You'll rarely ever get above 3rd gear unless your on extremely flat, and somewhat soft ground....and going in a perfectly straight line. Trying to run in 4th or 5th on hard ground will beat you do death, and the shock from trying to turn on both you and the machine is tremendous.

One word of caution. If yours doesn't still have the warning sticker, there should be one right in front of the shift lever telling you to never put both the direction reverser, and the transmission both into reverse. I don't know what will happen, and am smart enough not to do it just to find out....I'd rather deal with the mystery rather than a bunch of broken gears.

Try jdcrawlers.com a site dedicated to those things.

If there is nothing to bind and I don't know if you can safely do it with the 440 double reverse with give you a very low geared forward.

Like you say, I don't know if there is anything inside to bind, but Dad's still has the decal on the dash stating, basically, DO NOT engage both the transmission and reverser into reverse at the same time, as damage can result. Like I said, I just read and followed directions as I don't want to break any non-available parts.
