machine creeps ahead and is very difficult to get into reverse. Are there adjustments for the hydraulic system which controls movement in reverse and forward? Machine has a clutch and a shuttle lever.

Sounds like the forward clutch plates are warped or have come apart. This will give you the creep in forward,and when you try to go to reverse, the drag from the forward clutch pack is hindering the reverse shift. (Trying to go forward and reverse at the same time)
No real adjustment,tractor will require a split to renew the forward clutches,and sealing rings.
